Sony has launched a new flagship device, the Sony Xperia XZ3 and after a really long time, it seems like a Sony smartphone worth talking about. Sony has made some very good devices in the days of the Xperia Z, Z2 and Z3 but after that nobody seemed to care about Xperia’s. With the XZ3, Sony deserves at least a consideration.
Sony Xperia XZ3 Specifications:
The Xperia XZ3 features a 6-inch QHD+ screen with a tall 18:9 aspect ratio. The screen is curved around the edges and it looks beautiful. And for the first time ever, Sony has gone with an OLED screen. The OLED panel on this device looks stunning with deeper blacks and it also comes with X-Reality Engine tech from high-end Bravia TVs. All these features together make this display one of the best for consuming media content.
As expected from any 2018 flagship, this device also runs on the Snapdragon 845 with 4GB of ram which provides great power and also a flawless gaming experience. For the storage, there is 64GB included with an option to expand it via a microSD card. The phone comes with Android 9 Pie out of the box and is actually one of the very first devices to be in the Pie list. The battery is a 3300mAh which should be enough to get you through a day. There is support for Quick Charge 3.0 via the Type-C port. The glass back also enables wireless charging. Unfortunately, there is no headphone jack.
Enough about the specifications, this smartphone is so much more than just the spec-sheet. People are saying that this device’s speakers provide such an amazing audio quality that they’ve labeled it the best on any smartphone. And with the enhanced display, imagine the kind of media experience you could have on the go.
Talking about the camera
Talking about the camera, Sony is keeping it old school with only one camera on the rear which is a 19MP Exmor sensor with f/2.0 aperture. Sony has made some excellent cameras in the past and this one should be no exception. We expect it to on par with the current flagships like the S9 and the iPhone X. There is support for 4K video recording and Super-Slow-Motion video (960fps) at 1080p. The selfie camera is a 13MP shooter. Both the front and rear cameras support bokeh effects with the help of AI.
The Xperia XZ3 comes with a new feature called Side Sense. Double tap on the edge of the screen and a list of recent and most used apps come up. Sony is also testing another feature with this device where you see a circle on the screen as soon as you take the phone out of your pocket and if you tap on it the camera will capture a shot. While these features are still in beta, if liked by consumers, they will become permanent Sony features in no time. The centrally placed rear fingerprint scanner is something Sony didn’t change since the last generation and everyone still hates it.
Sony Xperia XZ3 Price:
The new color options look really good including Black, Silver White, Forest Green, and Bordeaux Red. The price tag on this new Sony Xperia XZ3 is $900 in the US. If you live in India though, there is bad news as Sony will most probably set an absurdly high price tag along with the lines of the other devices.
